Realtor Gets Humanitarian Award By Feeding Hundreds Of Families In Need Across Sarasota & Manatee Counties Through Basket Brigade
November 5, 2021 – Michele Tanner, a second-generation realtor with 17 years of experience, has been recognized by her peers at the Realtor Association of Sarasota and Manatee as the Humanitarian of the 3rd quarter for doing great things in her community. Michele, a team leader with The Tanner Group at Preferred Shore Real Estate, has been helping those less fortunate in her community for 11 years with Tanner’s Turkeys, a basket brigade event that provides families in need with a traditional Thanksgiving meal, including a frozen turkey and all the fixings for a feast. So far, they are $2500 away from their goal to feed 500 families.

Michele’s goal for this year’s fundraising is to feed another 500 families this year, which is what she accomplished last year. Year to date she has fed 2200 families in Sarasota & Manatee Counties for over 10 years since the inception of her basket brigade. Michele feels giving back to her community is so important, and providing a Thanksgiving meal through her basket brigade inspires hope, and for others to be grateful even through their struggles. We know the pandemic has caused even greater struggles financially and has made it even more challenging for families to put food on their tables. Many of the families struggling are single-parent households and as a single mom, Michele knows the struggles that many of these parents face. Once funds are raised, Michele buys all the food and organizes two volunteer events, open to the public, for packing the canned goods and delivery of food and frozen turkeys. On delivery day, her crew will deliver about 50 meals door to door, and the rest will be dropped at local nonprofits. Michele works with 6-8 nonprofits to find out their needs and those nonprofits distribute to families they serve who have a need.

Michele Tanner, originally from Ohio, moved to Sarasota in 2007 to continue serving clients in real estate. She is from a family of Realtors and grew up in the business. She is a single mom, who runs a real estate team in the Greater Sarasota area. She spent 8 years working on private yachts in her 20s and early 30s, and has carried that 5-star customer service into her real estate career. She loves boating and spending time near the water and her greatest love is her daughter, Daniella.
